What is OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE


Open source definition is less restrictive than free software definition. Free software is open source.
Though most open source licenses satisfy the free software definition, some are not as free as in “free
software”.
1. Free Redistribution
2. Shall not restrict any party from selling or giving away the software
3. Source Code
4. Must allow distribution in source code as well as compiled form.
5. Derived Works
6. Must allow modifications and derived works.
7. Integrity of The Author’s Source Code
8. Distinguished changes from the base source.
9. No Discrimination against Persons or Groups.
10. No Discrimination against Fields of Endeavor.
11. Distribution of License
12. No need for execution of an additional license.

Some of the Open Source Businesses are : IBM (Apache bundled with webspeher), Red
Had Software sells RH Linux, HP, Sun, Sharp, etc.
